Fr Bernard (Barney) Doyle R.I.P.

1933 – 2025

 

It is with deep regret that the Diocese of Kilmore announces the death of Fr Bernard (Barney) Doyle. 

Fr Barney was born on 27 October 1933, son of Francis Doyle and Mary A. Blake, Gortermone, Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim.

He was ordained to the priesthood in St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, on 21 June 1959 and served in the following parishes:

  • 29 August 1959 – Appointed CC in Ballintrillick
  • 8 August 1964 – Appointed CC in Corlough
  • 23 August 1969 – Appointed CC in Drumreilly Upper (added to the then Corlough Parish)
  • 12 January 1972 – Transferred to Corraleehan as CC
  • 23 June 1973 – Appointed CC in Manorhamilton
  • 30 August 1980 – Parish Work in Orlando, Florida, USA
  • 21 August 1982 – Appointed CC in Knockbride
  • 26 August 1989 – Appointed PP in Drumlane
  • 30 August 1997 – Appointed PP in Laragh
  • 9 August 2002 – Retired and appointed CC in Munterconnaught
  • 20 August 2005 – Retired and appointed Priest in Residence in Kiltyclogher
  • 30 August 2015 – Retired from active ministry to live in Cavan
  • 22 June 2025 – Returned to the House of the Father

Sincere sympathy is extended to his beloved brother John Francis (Seán), sister-in-law Bridget, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, Bishop Martin Hayes, Bishop-Emeritus Leo O’Reilly, brother priests, former parishioners, and his many good friends.

He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary-Anne; brother Pat; sisters Bridie, Maggie and Molly; and nephews Stephen Smyth and Andrew Sergejew.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

  • Father Barney will repose at St Mary’s Church, Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim (H12 AK84), on Tuesday 24 June 2025 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. followed by prayers.
  • Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday 25 June 2025 at 12 noon, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
