Care of Creation Harvest Celebrations in St. Michael’s Church and St. Mary’s Church, Glenfarne, Co. Leitrim
This weekend saw ‘gifts in abundance’ laid at the altars of St. Mary’s and St. Michael’s Churches in Glenfarne, Co. Leitrim. During the celebratory Masses, beautiful displays of fruits of the fields and hedges, produce from gardens and tunnels and fodder harvested from fields to feed the stock (hay, potatoes, acorns, rosehips, hazel nuts, apples and sloes) were a sight to behold. Giving thanks to God for what nature gives us and committing to do what we can to take care of it all is essential to our vocation as people of God.
Following Mass, Fr. Kelly presented the children preparing for Holy Communion with a set of rosary beads, an acorn, horse chestnuts and a prayer. This was to remind the children that with it being World Mission Sunday Weekend, it is their mission going forward to remember to pray and also to care for creation.
