Following the building of Rossinver Chapel in 1858 the people of Glenaniff, which then had a population of over 800, felt that they too deserved their own chapel. Having been donated a site by Thady Bredin and without ecclesiastical approval they had achieved this by 1860. With the exception of the masonry work and roofing which was carried out by Patrick Bredin, Gublaun for £20, the rest of the work was done by voluntary labour. John McGuinness was paid £1 for building an exterior wall 40yds long along the roadside.

By 1912 a wooden altar was erected by Johnny Gilbride from Dooard. In 1914 Fr. Bartley McCabe PP had a ceiling and floor installed. In the 1950s John Francis McGuinness installed a new confessional. In 1962 under the direction of Fr. Michael Costello major reconstruction work was undertaken with the McGuinness brothers, John, James and Frank as contractors. The gallery was removed and a new ceiling and seating installed. A new marble altar and altar rails were erected and stained glass windows and new Stations of the Cross were added. Repair work to the roof was carried out, the floor was tiled and the entrance door was changed from the roadside to the nave facing the Barr.
