The foundation stone of Dromahair Parish Church was laid on 17th March 1889. On Sunday 9th March 1890, almost a year later, the ancient association of Dromahair with St. Patrick was formerly recognised when the new church was dedicated to the National

Apostle by the Most Rev. Dr. Edward McGennis, Bishop of Kilmore.
The driving force behind the construction of St. Patrick’s church was the parish priest, the Rev. Cormac McSharry. Some years earlier he had helped raise funds all over the United States for the building of St. Patrick’s College, Cavan.

Now once again he displayed his considerable talents in raising £3,000 for the building of Dromahair church and in acquiring an excellent site – something others had failed to do – from the landlord of the area, George Lane-Fox of Bramham Park, Yorkshire.

The architect for Dromahair church was Andrew Scott, and his brother Paddy was the contractor. Both were members of a well-known family of builders from Navan.
Fr. Patsy Young had Dromahair church renovated and extensively refurbished for its centenary celebrations in 1990. More recently it was redecorated for the start of the new Millennium.

St. Patrick’s Church, Dromahair remains a great gem among cut-stone buildings with its own very special atmosphere and ambience.
