Katholikentag (Catholic Days) are usually held every other year in alternate cities in Germany and are among the largest and most important social events in Germany and Europe.  They offer an expression of the secular strength and responsibility of the lay people of the Catholic Church in Germany within the context of a festival of faith.

The Diocese of Würzburg hosted this year’s Katholikentag last month. Bishop Franz Jung extended an invitation to the Diocese of Kilmore for representatives to attend the event, given the close connection between the two dioceses through St Kilian, a native of the parish of Mullagh. The delegation comprised of Fr Paul Prior, Bronagh Prunty, Leanne Fitzledwith and Seán Coll.

The theme of Katholikentag 2026 was HAB MUT, STEH AUF from Mark 10:49 – “Have Courage … Stand Up”
