The Norbertines returned to Ireland in 1924 at the invitation of the late Most Rev. Dr. Finnegan, Bishop of Kilmore. They had been in Ireland from the 12th to the 16th century and one of their houses was at Lough Oughter, near Cavan. They moved into Holy Trinity Abbey, designed by messers Downes and Meehan,  constructed in 1948-1953 in 1952 from Kilnacrott house, built circa 1850, which had been their Priory.

In August 2012 the Abbey was sold and the community moved to a smaller dwelling nearby.
