The present church, in Tunnyduff townland and cruciform in shape, was built in 1845. It replaced an earlier one in Threecarvagh townland. The present building, on a site donated by the Carolan family, was completed when Fr. Patrick Brady was PP. The stones for the walls of the church were hewn from quarries in Lakeland and Cavantymahon and transported by horse and slipe, while a man named Murray from Knocknalosset was the stone mason.

The roof was constructed of heavy beams, bought in Dundalk and drawn by a Mr. Scott from Beglieve. The floor was blue clay. In 1890 the first seats were installed. In 1916, two Sheridan stained glass windows were installed, years later the remaining Carroll stained glass windows were added. From 1953 to 1955 major renovations took place – new floor, new roof, marble altar and altar rails and a gallery were installed. Other than the addition of heating and amplification systems, it has remained largely unchanged since then.
