About the year 1780 a post-penal Church was built in the townland of Knocktemple. The present church was built in 1847 on the same site. It was dedicated on 10th October 1858. It is a rectangular church built to seat 350 people. It was renovated and re-roofed in 1959 and re-dedicated. Since that date there have been minor alterations – altar facing people, new confessionals, amplification and heating. A small radio transmitter enables the housebound to hear mass, weddings and other ceremonies. The church was built by local builders, the Keogan family.
