Celebrations to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of Loreto College Cavan were held in the College on Saturday 25th September 2010.

Loreto Sisters and Retired Teachers associated with the school over the years, present staff and representatives of the parent and student bodies were invited to attend. The celebrations began with Mass in the Prayer Room at 12.30pm.  Bishop Leo O’Reilly officiated, assisted by the school Chaplin, Fr. Kevin Fay.

Mass was followed by the Blessing of the Sisters’ Graves in the College Cemetery.

Guests then enjoyed a meal in the Concert Hall, followed by drama and musical presentations.

Students of Loreto College joined in the celebrations on Monday 27th September when prayer was said over the public address. Students were then presented with a commemorative bookmark and a small gift.

The Board of Management of Loreto College is delighted to announce that Fr. Liam Kelly PP Crosskeys has very kindly agreed to a request from the Board of Management to write a book detailing the history of founding of Loreto College Cavan. Fr. Liam’s book will record and so preserve for future generations the story of the arrival in Cavan in 1930 of the Loreto Sisters and the many challenges they faced getting the school up and running. The Board hopes that past pupils and others will share old photographs and other memorabilia with the school for possible inclusion in Fr. Liam’s book. See advertisement on page for further details.
