The Season of Creation has a special significance for the Catholic Church, particularly since the late Pope Francis established 1 September as an annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. This year’s theme is “Peace with Creation”, and it is inspired by the passage from Isaiah 32:14-18; “My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.” In a world of challenges and division, marked by war and climate change, how can we as people of faith create and work towards peace with creation?
Bishop Martin Hayes, Bishop of Kilmore and Laudato Si’ Coordinator of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference, is inviting everyone to take part in the Season of Creation, which runs from 1 September and concludes on 4 October, on the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi.
In a video message, Bishop Hayes reflected, “We do not want a desert for our future; we inherited a garden. These are the words of Church leaders at this time. It is a challenge for us all in a world torn by conflict and climate change. We need to reconcile ourselves and make peace with creation.”
He went on to encourage participation, saying, “I invite you to join us for our Season of Creation, where together we will pray and take action to care for our common home.”
