Rev. Bernard Fitzpatrick R.I.P.

5 January 1941 – 30 April 2021

Your prayers are asked for the happy repose of the soul of the late Fr. Bernard (Benny) Fitzpatrick who passed away on Friday 30 April 2021.

+ Born – 5 January 1941, son of Patrick Fitzpatrick and Mary Lynch, Rathcorick, in the parish of Urney and Annagelliff

+ Ordained to the Priesthood by Bishop Francis J. MacKiernan in the Cathedral of Saint Patrick & Saint Felim, Cavan – 19 June 1983

+ Appointed CC in Killasnett with residency in Newtownmanor – 1983

+ Appointed CC in Ballintemple – 1988

Appointed CC in Drumkilly – 1991

+ Volunteered for the Kilmore Mission to Lagos, Nigeria (St. Charles, Olodi) – 1992

+ Appointed CC in Clifferna – 1998

Returned to the Kilmore Mission to Lagos, Nigeria (St. Matthew’s, Amokoko) – 2001

+ Appointed CC in Kinawley-Killesher with residency in Swanlinbar – 2014

+ Retired – March 2021

+ Returned to the House of the Father – Friday 30 April 2021

Pre-deceased by his parents Mary and Pat, his brother Jim, and sisters Betty, Maura and Anne. 

Fr. Benny will be very sadly missed and fondly remembered by his sister Madeleine (McCormack) Castletara, all his nephews and nieces far and wide, cousins, Bishop Martin Hayes, Bishop Emeritus Leo O’Reilly, all his brother priests of the Diocese of Kilmore, and the many people who became special friends during his ministry.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Swanlinbar, on Monday 3 May 2021 at 12 noon followed by committal prayers and burial in the family plot at St. Brigid’s Church, Killygarry, Cavan.

Donations would be appreciated in memory of Fr. Benny to help continue his building programme in Lagos, Nigeria in care of McMahon Funeral Directors, Farnham Road, Cavan or any family member.

Hear with favour our prayers, which we humbly offer, O Lord, for the salvation of the soul of Fr. Bernard, your servant and priest, that he, who devoted a faithful ministry to your name, may rejoice in the perpetual company of your Saints.
