St. Brigid’s Church, Kill was built in 1826 and was one of fifteen churches built in the Diocese of Kilmore in the 1820s. It is described as one of two types of Barn Church common in the Diocese in the early 19th Century.

As the church was not spacious enough to accommodate the very large congregation, Fr. Mathew McQuaid planned an extension to the building around 1848. The church was then, as it is now, cruciform in shape.

In 1977 Fr. John Quinn undertook a major reconstruction of the church. The architect was Alan Latimer; the contractors were John Leahy & Co. Ltd., and Mr K. Hand.
A feature of the reconstructed church is the bell tower, which is the only inherent architectural link with the original. The church was dedicated by Most Rev. Dr. F.J. MacKiernan, Bishop of Kilmore, on 9th June 1977.
